High energy and excitement filled the Parc 55 Hotel throughout the day during EWIP’s fourth annual leadership conference in March. The conference featured a range of talented speakers with multiple generations well represented. The opening panel explored mentoring and other issues for the development of new talent with the two founders from The Levo League, a recently launched website to provide support and resources to young women entering the workplace. The theme for this year’s conference, Content, Community and Collaboration, featured innovative publishing executives from CBS Interactive, Sunset magazine, and VegNews. The conference keynote panel, moderated by the always entertaining media observer, Kara Swisher, of AllThingsD.com, as digital media veterans from Twitter, BlogHer, LinkedIn, and Facebook shared workplace stories, reported trends, and revealed the latest statistics on their communities.
The full day program offered numerous choices for the attendees with morning and afternoon breakout sessions but the highlight had to be the EWIP Awards celebration. There were more than a few touching moments during the luncheon when honoree, Dorothy Kalins (2009) warmly introduced her friend, and this years’ honoree, Michela O’Connor Abrams (2012).
There was plenty of time for connecting with friends and colleagues who enjoyed the opportunity to connect with each other in person. And for those who attended the evening wine reception, they enjoyed even more “connecting” and a captivating 10-minute scene from a Sam Sheppard play, acted out, courtesy of San Francisco’s Boxcar Theatre. It was a full day that delivered something valuable for every one. For sure, no one left empty-handed—most were clutching the shiny white and orange gift bags as they left.
